Army on Thursday launched a search operation in Balakote area of Mendhar sub-division in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir after foiling an infiltration bid, officials said.
An official said that army men deployed on the Line of Control (LoC) foiled an infiltration bid in Dera area of Balakote, following which the area was cordoned off.
“Major search operation has been launched in the entire area and there is possibility of some infiltrators being injured or killed,” he said.
The official said that an exchange of fire took place between the two sides.
“Some suspicious moved was noticed in General area Mendhar and engagement has taken place and now search in progress,” said a Jammu-based Army spokesman.
