The armies of India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged heavy fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that firing exchange began around 6:30am in Degwar sector of Poonch.
They said that civilian areas were also targeted in the exchange that was going on intermittently when last reports came in.
DSP Headquarters Poonch Shahid Nayeem confirmed that the firing exchange took place.
On Monday, Pakistan said that three of its soldiers were killed after India opened "unprovoked firing" along the LoC in Rawalkot sector of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Ealier on Saturday, four Indian army soldiers were killed and another injured in firing by Pakistan army.
