Leopard on BGSBU Rajouri campus causes panic

Rajouri Nov 10: A leopard was spotted inside the campus Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri on Wednesday evening, triggering panic among the students and the staff.

An official told Greater Kashmir that one of the staff members saw the grown up leopard sitting on the roadside while driving through the campus after which he informed the varsity higher ups.

   

The sighting of the animal has caused fear among staff members and students of university especially among those who stay inside the campus, an official said.

He said that hundreds of staff members of both teaching and non-teaching cadre are staying in hostels located within the campus with many staff members also having their families in the official residential quarters.

“There is panic everywhere and no one is coming out of their buildings while students who attend university from nearby areas are also in a state of panic and are fearing to attend university for classes even in day hours, ” added the official.

He further added that there is a thick vegetation inside the campus which provides hiding space to the animal.

An officer of the University administration informed that an advisory has been issued by the administration for staffers and students to be alert.

He added that all students and staff members staying in the university campus have been asked not to roam outside after evening hours and also not to move near thick vegetation areas. Besides, they have been asked to prefer moving in groups.

Divisional Officer of Wildlife Protection Department, Mushtaq Chowdhary said that they have kept the area under surveillance.
