LoC on fire; Heavy shelling continues in Nowshera, Mendhar

Heavy cross border firing in Rajouri’s Nowshera and Poonch’sMendhar sector continued on Friday with dozens of villages along the line ofcontrol getting pounded.

As per details with Greater Kashmir, in Balakote area ofMendhar sub-division, cross border firing started at about 10 PM on Thursdayand exchange of small as well as automatic arms fire continued till 12:30 AM.

   

However, situation took ugly turn when entire Balakote areaof Mendhar came under intense shelling which continued till 4 AM Friday.

“From 12:30 AM to 04 AM, entire Balakote area wasrattled with heavy shelling,” said an official.

He added that villages of Balakote including Dhargaloon,Basooni, Dhrati, Berote, Basooni and several other villages were badly affectedwith heavy shelling which continued till 4 AM.

He further said that although firing in Mendhar stopped from04 AM to 06 PM on Friday, situation once again got tense in entire Mendhar subdivision including Balakote, Mendhar forward and KG sector where heavy crossborder firing started and was going on when fresh reports poured in.

Similarly, shelling also started in Bhimber Gali andTarkundi areas on LoC near Balakote which was going on when last reports pouredin.

On the other hand, after a lull from Thursday evening toFriday evening, cross border firing started in Jhanger, Kalsian, Sair, Makri,Namb, Kadali, Laroka and other forward areas of Nowshera sector of Rajouridistrict.

“Firing started at about 03:30 PM on Friday lateafternoon and was going on when last reports poured in,” an official ofpolice from Nowshera told Greater Kashmir.

He added that firing was going on in entire Nowshera Jhangerarea when fresh reports poured in.
