The residents of Sarh village in Mahore staged a demonstration against power development department (PDD) and wildlife department to lodge their protest against unscheduled power curtailment and frequent attacks by wild animals.
The protesters, led by sarpanch of the village, Mohammad Aslam Mir, took out a protest rally from the panchayat garh to army camp.
They alleged, "While there has been an exponential increase in attacks by wild animals, the department is doing nothing. Our kids are being mauled to death and all of us are scared to venture out of our homes, even during the day." They urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik to depute a gazetted-rank wildlife officer to supervise the search operation, launched by the department to capture a leopard, who has already mauled two kids to death in the last 20-odd days.
While showing resentment against the power development department, the agitating residents alleged, "While the wild beasts are on a killing spree, the power development department is indulging in frequent power cuts. How are we supposed to fight the beats without electricity?"
They demanded that there should not be any power curtailment in the area, especially during the night. "This will help us be safe. At least, we will be able to see the wild animals and run for safety," they claimed.
