Mughal Road remains closed for 3rd day

A light shower last night ended prolonged dry spell in Rajouri district as well as areas of Poonch district while higher reaches of the Pir Panchal region received more snowfall.

A light shower last night ended prolonged dry spell in Rajouri district as well as areas of Poonch district while higher reaches of the Pir Panchal region received more snowfall. Mughal Road, meanwhile, continued to remain closed for third consecutive day Wednesday. 

As per reports, a light shower was received in most of the areas of Pir Panchal region last night, bringing cheer on the faces of people, particularly farmers. 

Although rainfall was very light, it ended the long dry season.

Reports said higher reaches of Rajouri and Poonch received fresh snowfall since last night.

"There is heavy accumulation of snow on Mughal Road and it's completely closed," ExEN Mughal Road Project, Maqbool Hussain, said.

He said a vehicle trapped in snow was evacuated yesterday.

"The Mughal road has been closed for vehicular traffic due to snowfall at Peer-ki-Gali and its adjoining areas. The road has been closed from 03.01.2017 for vehicular traffic between Chandi Marh in Bufliaz sector and Heerpora in Shopian sector with immediate effect till further advisory from the concerned authorities," an official spokesman said.
