Nowshera tension: Mobile Internet suspended in Rajouri on third straight day

Mobile Internet service continued to remain suspended in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir for the third consecutive day on Monday due to tension following clashes in Nowshera on Saturday that left over two dozen people injured.

An agitation was launched in Nowshera six weeks before with people demanding a separate district for the area.

On Saturday, clashes erupted between the government forces and locals after the former attempted to prevent a protest march towards tehsil office complex. 30 people, including the deputy commissioner Rajouri, were injured in the clashes.

Mobile Internet was suspended in entire Rajouri district after the clashes. However, BSNL broadband service has not been affected by the gag.

A senior officer in the civil administration said that mobile Internet has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent law and order issues.

He said a decision will be taken today evening after reviewing the situation.

Meanwhile, an uneasy calm prevails in Nowshera area with no fresh incident of violence reported from anywhere since Saturday. The administration has so far been unable to end the deadlock.
