With over hundred villages under its jurisdiction, Police Station Rajouri has recorded 792 FIRs in 2016. Despite having such pressure of work, the police station is running from a four-room temporary accommodation with inadequate staff at its disposal.
Even as a number of proposals were moved in the past for delimiting the territorial jurisdiction of the police station to help it cope with the pressure, such proposals have yielded no results.
As per details available, Rajouri police station is one among the ten police stations in the border district Rajouri. The nine others are: Thanamandi, Darhal, Kandi, Budhal, Kalakote, Dharamsal, Sunderbani, Nowshera and Manjakote.
Located near Salani Bridge of Rajouri town and attached with District Police Line premises, Rajouri police station is presently being run from a temporary accommodation as its original building was dismantled two years ago and a new two storeyed building on model pattern is being constructed.
The setup of this police station is such that two Police Posts fall under the control of this police station with one Police Post Chatyar and one Police Post Rajouri City.
Over one hundred villages fall under the jurisdiction of this police with many among them falling alongside the Line of Control including Basali, Nambla, Chitti Bakri in Keri sector.
Sources said the present administrative setup of Rajouri police station included one Inspector level officer as Station House Officer, three Sub Inspectors, about six Assistant Sub Inspectors and around twenty Investigating Officers of different ranks.
In year 2016, Rajouri police station remained on the top of the list in terms of cases (792 FIRs) registered in the year.
"Almost every year the FIR count of Rajouri PS remains between 700 to 800 and this year also it's touching 800," sources informed.
"The Police Station not only deals with criminal cases and complaints, it also has to take care of busy schedule of VIP movements in the area," sources said.
The police station is having only one official vehicle of SHO which is used for all purposes including dealing with cases, investigation, VIP movement, arrest of criminals and patrolling.
Sources proposals of delimiting the area of the police station moved several times, have found no favour with the government.
"IG Jammu zone, Danesh Rana, during his tenure as DIG Rajouri Poonch range, formulated a proposal of upgrading Police Post Chatyar Chingus as Police Station so as to delimit the area of PS Rajouri and to reduce the burden on the police station. A proposal in this regard was sent to higher authorities but to no avail," sources disclosed.
They said that about a couple of years ago another proposal was sent by District Police Office to delimit the area of the police station and upgrade the Police Post Chatyar Chingus and Police Post Rajouri city. "But again the proposal was perhaps thrown into some dustbin," sources said.
Sources said despite having so much pressure the police station has been provided with inadequate staff.
