Notwithstanding the tall claims of promoting cleanliness and hygiene by local administration, the General Bus Stand in this border town presents a depressing picture as it sans even basic amenities.
In absence of drinking water and sanitation facilities, hundreds of passengers travelling from the Bus stand to other places of the district have to face the brunt of official apathy on daily basis.
The potholed road and heaps of unattended garbage present a common scene. The passengers hardly take risk to go near the lone water hand pump in the area amidst stagnant water and filth.
The bus stand is located in the heart of the town and visited by hundreds of passengers from across the district including Kotranka, Budhal, Darhal, Thanamandi, Manjakote, Thandikassi, Doongi, Nowshera, Sunderbani, Kalakote, Teryath and other areas.
"There is only one water hand pump in the Bus stand which provides drinking water facility. But it is difficult for you to quench your thirst due to badly smelling heaps of garbage and stagnant water in the vicinity" Azam Ahmed of Manjakote said.
There is no waiting shed and passengers are forced to stand in open in rains and scorching heat, complained Shabir Ahmed of Kalakote .
"Condition of main bus stand shows the seamy side of development in small towns and exposes tall claims of politicians and local administration" rued a local trader Ankush Sharma.
He said "The whole parking area is dotted with potholes and I can bet that no one in the area may even remember when it was blacktopped last time".
