MLA Rajouri, Ch Qamar Hussain today emphasized upon the farmers to plant more and more fruit trees, as the area has huge potential for horticulture growth due to its good agro-climatic conditions.
While addressing a gathering of farmers on Horticulture awareness camp at Lah (Thana Mandi), MLA advised the field functionaries of the department to interact with the farmers in different zones of the district to train them and facilitate the horticulture activities to increase profits for the poor growers. He also told the Horticulture department to get certification of Horticulture produce to enable the growers to earn better returns. He asked the unemployed youth to get training in top working/ budding/ grafting operation so that they can earn their livelihood from the incentives being offered by the department.
Director Horticulture, Jammu, AK Sharma was also present on the occasion along with field functionaries including Chief Horticulture Officer, YK Kesar, District Horticulture Officer and Horticulture Development Officers.
The farmers were made aware about different components of the schemes launched for Integrated Development of Horticulture in Rajouri District.
The Director Horticulture Jammu, while speaking on the occasion, informed that a road map has been formulated for Rajouri district for implementation of different components under Area Expansion with intensive crop cultivation, integration with vermi compost unit/ vermi bed, creation of water source, protected cultivation and INM/IPM practices.
On the demand of fruit growers, it was decided that Horticulture Development Officer will start functioning at Saj Nursery instead of Thanamandi, where newly constructed office has been established.
