People from Rajouri district on Saturday urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is holding the charge of Ministry of Horticulture, to order a probe into allotment of shops at Horticulture Marketing Mandi here, alleging that large scale favouritism was done in 2012-13 during the allotment process. They claimed the real horticulture growers were not given these shops.
Sources said Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing yesterday visited the Horticulture Office here where a number of people and fruit growers called on him.
"During their interaction, these people strongly raised objections over allotment of shops among some politically-influential people at Horticulture Marketing Mandi, alleging that large scale bungling and favouritism has been done in the allotment process," the sources said.
They told the Director that in case the department doesn't look into the alleged favouritism, "we will be forced to launch an agitation."
"Actual fruit growers and those who have served in Horticulture fields are deprived and politically-strong people are getting allotment of shops," former MLC Gulzar Ahmed alleged after meeting Director Horticulture and Planning & Marketing.
He also urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to probe the matter.
