Zonal Resource Centre (ZRC), constructed by the Education department in 2004, remains to be non-functional as the department has failed to put the institute into use.
Details collected by Greater Kashmir reveal that the building was constructed in 2004 at Iqbal Nagar, Surankote with the name ZRC and was setup under Sarav Shiksha Abhiyaan. However, the centre is yet to be used and has become a favourite parking spot.
"Along with this building, an open septic tank was also constructed which is now full of water and garbage. There is a high risk of kids drowning in the tank," details with Greater Kashmir revealed.
The locals have asked the authorities to start making use of the center, in order to ensure that government funds are not wasted. They further said that despite utilization of funds for construction of ZRC, the department's office is being run from a rented accommodation.
When contacted by Greater Kashmir, Chief Education Officer Poonch assured to look into the matter and said that he will seek a report from Zonal Education Officer Surankote about the issue.
