Massive protests erupted in Kotranaka town of this district after recovery of a ninth class female student's body.

Body of 16-year-old Ranju Devi daughter of Jeet Raj of Bai Nambal village Kotranaka, at present residing in a rented accommodation at Kotranka town was recovered under mysterious circumstance from a river bank today.

As per police sources, some passers by found a body lying under a bridge in Kotranka and informed police.

Later, a team of local police, led by SHO Kandi Jahanger Ahmed reached the spot and shifted the body to a nearby hospital.

Soon after getting information, a team of doctors from District Hospital Rajouri was rushed to the spot to conduct the medical examination of the deceased girl but seeing poor facilities at the health centre, the team of doctors refused to conduct the test.

Following this, the body was shifted to District Hospital Rajouri where a board of doctors was constituted by the Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Rajouri- Dr. Anees Nabi to conduct the autopsy of the deceased girl to find the exact reasons behind the mysterious death.

As the news of the girl's death spread, family members of the deceased girl along with locals assembled outside District Hospital Rajouri and held a massive demonstration against the local police and administration.

According to the family members of the girl, their daughter was gang-raped and murdered by four to five youth of the area. They alleged that police are sheltering the accused.

After the family members of the girl refused to lift the body of the deceased girl, Additional SP-Tahir Saleem Khan reached the spot and assured the protesters that a fair and transparent probe has been ordered into the incident.

Following assurance from the police officer, the protesters took away the body for performing the last rites.

Later in the day, similar protests were also held in Kotranka Town.   Protesters blocked the Rajouri-Kotranka Road for several hours leading to problems to the commuters.

Meanwhile, all the business establishments remained closed in Kotranka Town as a mark of protest against the failure of local police in arresting the accused youth.

Additional SP Rajouri-Tahir Saleem Khan told Greater Kashmir that post-mortem of the body has already been conducted by the board of doctors and police have also rounded  up one person for questioning.

On allegations of gang-rape and murder, the police officer said, "We are investigating the case and we are looking from all angles. Guilty, whosoever will be punished under law. Nobody will be spared".
