Week on, Tukson-Gulabgarh road remains shut

The Tukson-Gulabgarh road has been lying shut since a week, making the local populace suffer.

The residents of Gulabgarh, while talking to Greater Kashmir, said, “The road has been lying closed since a week. We are being made to suffer as this is the only road-link from several villages to sub-division headquarter, Mahore.”

They said, “In our areas, there are several patients who are in dire need of treatment. They have to go to Jammu to get themselves checked, but, unfortunately, the road has been lying closed. They remain in critical state, stuck inside their houses.”

The locals claimed to have contacted sub-divisional magistrate, Mahore, and asked him to get the road cleared. “The officer told us that the road will only be cleared after January 31 as the meteorological department has issued a forecast of snowfall till January 31,” they alleged.

The locals warned to launch a hunger strike if the road is not thrown open within a day. “If the government fails to provide us with the basic necessity, we will be forced to launch an agitation. We will sit on hunger strike,” they said.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, district development commissioner, Reasi, Dr Sagar Dattatray Doifode, said that he will direct the concerned authorities to clear the road as soon as possible.
