Srinagar, Apr 17: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on Wednesday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of six persons in the tragic boat mishap at Gandbal in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The Committee has demanded for adherence of proper mechanism so that such incidents are not repeated in future.

In a statement APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina while welcoming the government move to ensure life jackets for the people boarding a boat or shikara said that the move needs to be implemented in letter and spirit. He said that in past such initiatives were not taken seriously as a result of which tragic incidents continue to happen.

“It is important that life jackets are made mandatory for the people who row a boat or shikara and also for the people boarding the same. This would ensure human lives are not lost and safety standards are met,” said Raina. He demanded stern action against the people who violate the norms in this regard.
