Jammu, Nov 3: In a significant development, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has agreed to consider the proposal for construction of a crucial tunnel connecting Narol to Kanoyian in tehsil Mendhar of the strategically important border district of Poonch.
In reply to a representation by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajya Sabha, Engineer Gulam Ali Khatana, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that the matter was being looked into.
As per a press statement, Khatana, after a recent tour of Poonch and representation by vice chairman DDC Poonch proposed a tunnel for Narol to Kanoyian in Mendhar to Gadkari emphasizing the importance of constructing the tunnel to enhance transportation and accessibility to the border district, which played a vital role in national defence and security.
“The proposed tunnel is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve the overall infrastructure in the area. In response to this urgent plea, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has acknowledged the significance of the project and assured that the matter is being thoroughly reviewed by his ministry,” Khatana said in the press statement.
