Release pension, relief to political migrants: Congress

Srinagar, Feb 23: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and former JKPCC President Ghulam Ahmad Mir today urged the government to release the monthly pension and relief to political migrants.

According to a press release, he made the demand after a delegation of political migrants met him and sought his intervention in getting their monthly migrant pension and relief.

They said they were getting the pension and relief for their living. The delegation members originally hailing from different districts of Kashmir alleged that the pension and relief has been stopped for last several months and their families are starving. “They told him (Mir) that they have been living migrant life for decades. On the basis of threat to their lives and the contributions they have made towards restoration of peace in Kashmir, the then central and state governments sanctioned the monthly migrant pension in their favour after completing all the required formalities,” the press release said.

They also told Mir that despite braving the brunt of militancy, they continue to work for the nation. AICC General Secretary expressed serious concern and anguish over the government move of putting on hold the monthly migrant pension for many month. He termed the move as unfortunate and inhuman and demanded settling of the demand of political migrants.
