Reports about me contesting Parliament elections rumours: Mian Altaf

Srinagar, Feb 2: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and former minister Mian Altaf Ahmad today described as rumours the reports in media regarding him contesting the coming Lok Sabha polls from Anantnag-Rajouri-Poonch constituency.

The reports in media have been saying that NC will field him as its candidate for the constituency. Talking to Greater Kashmir, the five time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kangan and several time cabinet minister, Mian Altaf said that these reports are  just rumours.

   

” In some sections of media and on social media , it has appeared that I would be contesting the upcoming parliamentary election from Anantnag parliamentary seat, which is untrue and has no basis. I am not aware of any such thing, neither it has been discussed so far within the party, “he said aid. The Nc leader said that there was no truth in these reports. Mian Altaf said that the parliamentary board of the party (National Conference) will decide about the candidature for the upcoming Parliament elections whenever the elections are announced.

It is worth to mention that the senior NC leader is having a stronghold in Rajouri, Poonch , Kulgam and Anantnag areas as well and can be a strong candidate for the Anantnag seat. Given his stature, some media platforms and social media is abuzz with the reports that the senior leader will be contesting for Anantnag parliament seat from National Conference.

Pertinently, National Conference (NC) Vice President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah recently said that his party had not yet decided about the candidates for the upcoming parliamentary polls. Abdullah said that the NC high command would sit on the matter and select suitable candidates for the field.
