Kashmir Harvard inter-school cricket event inaugurated

The tournament is part of SCA and Amblin initiative to give competitive cricket atmosphere to the school going students. The event will see 16 schools teams from various parts of Valley competing for the title.

Star cricketer of State, Parvez Rasool on Tuesday inaugurated the first of its kind cricket event, Kashmir Harvard Under-16 Inter-School cricket tournament organized by State Cricket Academy (SCA) in collaboration with Amblin at city central TRC ground, here.

The tournament is part of SCA and Amblin initiative to give competitive cricket atmosphere to the school going students. The event will see 16 schools teams from various parts of Valley competing for the title.

On Tuesday inaugural ceremony was held in which title trophy was unveiled and also participating teams were introduced. Around 400 cricketers representing Kashmir Harvard, Green Valley, RP School, DPS Srinagar, Little Angels School, Lawrence Vidhya Bhawan, New Convent, DPS Budgam, Vision School Budgam, Spring Buds Budgam, Tyndale Biscoe, Burn Hall, Khanam’s Educational Institute, SP School and State Cricket Academy were present at the venue.

Upon his arrival at the venue chief guest Parvez Rasool was greeted with loud cheers by from the young cricketers who had been waiting for him. Parvez reacted positively and then for most of the time was seen obliging the selfie and autograph requests. It was dream come true for most of the youngsters to meet their star cricketer face to face.

Among others present on the occasion were Director SCA Mubashir Hassan, Director Amblin Hinan Bhat, Sports Officer Kashmir Nuzhat Ara, Sports Officer central Nusrat Gazala, cricket coach Abid Nabi, event manager Kashmir Harvard Sheikh Mubashir, managers of Polo Ground and TRC ground and various other cricketers and dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Parvez said, “It is great to see such initiative being taken and I think more such events should be held. The events at school level are good for the cricket. SCA and Amblin should be hailed for this,” Parvez said.

Director Amblin Hinan Manzoor said that they will be conducting more such events in coming time that will involve football as well.

“Our focus is on youngsters and we will be conducting more events in different sports disciplines that will include football as well. In this current event 16 school teams would be competing for the title on knockout basis,” he said.

The event is organized by State Cricket Academy (SCA) in collaboration with Amblin and sponsored by Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute, J&K Bank, Unibic Biscuits.
