Kupwara, Dec 31: Seventy six drug peddlers were arrested in police district Handwara in 2023. Eight were booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Fifty one cases were registered and a huge quantity of contraband substances were recovered. A huge quantity of contraband substances including 6.265 kg charas, brown sugar 101 grams, bhung powder one kg, ganja 480 grams, cannabis 200 grams, poppy straw 4 kg, tapendal tablets 385, cash Rs 102885, three vehicles including Eco, Wagon-R, Sumo, a motorcycle , a scooty, 20 mobile phones along with SIM cards, a weighing machine (digital), Aadhaar cards three and an ATM card were seized in the process. Property of drug smugglers worth lakhs was also attached in the previous year. A shop cum residential house of Mohammad Gulzar Mir Son of Ghulam Mohi Udin resident of Amargrah Shaherkote, Vilgam was attached on November 22. During police investigation it was discovered that the property was acquired from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the owner, following which the property was attached. The approximate value of the property happens to be Rs 33. 65 lakhs.
