Srinagar, Dec 9: In a relentless pursuit to eliminate the scourge of drugs from the society, police arrested a drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A diligent team of officers led by Incharge Police Post Chogal under the supervision of senior officers at a checkpoint established at Pohrupeith intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
During the search, officers recovered 4 kgs of poppy straw meticulously concealed in a bag from his possession. He has been identified as Aqib Ahmad Najar resident of Sopore. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
In response to this incident, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in the police station and further investigation has been initiated.
