Police to put in place foolproof security for upcoming festivals

Srinagar, Apr 3: In a high-level meeting, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, emphasised the need for heightened preparedness to ensure the safety and security of the populace during the upcoming auspicious occasions and festivals of various communities.

The meeting, attended by Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIsG) and District Superintendents of Police (SsP), focused on assessing and enhancing preparedness levels for the events.

   

The forthcoming days are marked by several significant occasions, including Jumat-ul-Vida, Shab-l-Qadr, Navratra, Arfa day, Eid-ul-Fitr, Baisakhi, and Ramanavami, each carrying profound cultural and religious importance in the region.

IGP Kashmir stressed the importance of collective efforts in ensuring peaceful conduct of these events and highlighted the need for overall preparation.

V K Birdi emphasised the importance of strengthening surveillance efforts to monitor and thwart activities of elements detrimental to the peace and stability of the region. He directed officers to implement robust security measures to counter any potential terror threats and ensure the safety of citizens participating in the festivities.

Additionally, IGP Kashmir stressed on intensifying market inspections in coordination with concerned magistrates, particularly in anticipation of Eid-ul-Fitr, to prevent malpractices and ensure all essential commodities are sold at government-approved rates with standard quality and sufficient availability. He directed senior officers to facilitate the general public and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place.

The meeting also highlighted the need for formulating comprehensive traffic management and crowd management plans, with special emphasis on Jumat-ul-Vida, Shab-e-Qadr, and Arfa day to facilitate smooth flow and minimise congestion on roads. Officers were directed to identify temporary suitable parking spots to accommodate the influx of vehicles and ensure orderly parking arrangements.

Moreover, the meeting focused on establishing dialogue and coordination with respective Auqaf committees to facilitate the peaceful conduct of Shab-i-Qadr night congregations and Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

IGP Kashmir underscored the importance of proactive measures and collaborative efforts from all stakeholders to ensure overall peace and harmony during these auspicious occasions. He reiterated the commitment to maintaining law and order and providing a safe and secure environment for general citizens to celebrate the upcoming events without fear and disruptions.
