Srinagar: Guru Hargobind Hockey Championship kicked off on Thursday at Polo Ground with two matches played on inaugural day.
First match which was played between Friends Club and Frontier club ended in 1-1 draw. From the start both the teams played attacking game but it was Tahir Ahmad of Frontier Club who scored first goal in the 20th minute of first half.
At half time the score line read 1-0 in favour of Frontier Club. Second half started with both the team's launching streak of attacks on each others goalpost. Several times both the teams came close to score a goal but neither could capitalize. In dying moments of the game Gurdeep Singh of Friends Club scored an equalizer through penalty corner thus leaving both teams at 1-1 draw.
The second match of the day was scheduled to be played between Badal Club and S P College Srinagar. Badal club were declared winners through walk over, as SP College couldn't present themselves on time.
The championship is being organized by J&K Hockey Association and sponsored by Guru Hargobind Sports Board.
On Friday first match is scheduled between Deshmesh club and Amar Singh College while SRTC XI will take on Youth Khalsa in the other match of the day. GKNS
