Fulfilling the long pending demand of the department, Government recently handed over the charge of multi sports facility Gindun ground Rajbagh and Water Sports Center Nehru Park to Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).

DYSS which is in forefront in the promotion of grass root level sports in the State has been operating over the years without having any worthwhile sports facility at its disposal. For conducting the activities, department used to take services from Sports Council or any Government, Private institutes for the purpose.

To make the DYSS self-sufficient and provide them the readily available facility Government recently issued an order handing over the charge of Gindun and Water Sports Centre Nehru Park to DYSS.

"In supersession of all previous orders on the subject and in the interest of administration, sanction is hereby accorded to the handing over of the inherited water sports center, Nehru park and model playing field (Gindun) Rajbagh, Srinagar to the Department of Youth Services and Sports by the J&K State Sports Council for conducting of sporting activities in the said premises for promotion of sports spirit in the State," order issued by Commissioner Secretary to Government, Technical Education and YSS department, Hirdesh Kumar reads.

Welcoming the move, DYSS District Sports Officer Srinagar, Muzzaffar Ahmad Tramboo said that with this step number of problems faced by the DYSS while conducting activities would be gone.

"It is great step taken by the Government and it will help us great deal. In State DYSS is the department which has highest manpower in terms of physical teachers and instructors. We conduct highest number of activities at grass root level in every block, zone and district of the State. However we used to have no facility of our own," said Tramboo.

"With the handing over of the Gindun facility number of bottlenecks while planning activities would be reduced. We now will not have to send request letter and wait for the approval of the field from any other department. It will save us time and we will be able to conduct more and more events," he said.

He said that DYSS has already taken over the facilities and the development and maintenance of these facilities would be done by department.

"We have already taken over the facilities and also deputed our staff there. We will be maintaining and developing the facilities now onwards," he said.

All J&K DYSS Employees Welfare Association has also welcomed the move and has also suggested various steps to take full advantage of the facilities.

"It is much needed move to rejuvenate the activities of the DYSS. It is DYSS which produces the talent in the State but it was department without having any facility in shape of ground available at its disposal. We needed to beg in front of other departments for the purposes and at times request was being denied," said All J&K DYSS Employees Welfare Association, Zahoor Ahmad.

"We are thankful to Sports Minister, Director General DYSS for making this possible. Now is the time that we take full advantage of these facilities. We should start our seasonal activities early. We can organize coaching camps, late evening classes in various sports disciplines at Gindun. For the purpose Department should depute staff to these centers to make that happen. For Water Sports Centre need is to keep that buzzing with activities," he added.
