The former I-League champions and top club of Country, Dempo Sporting Goa would be arriving in Kashmir on Friday to play its away match of second division, I-League against hosts Kashmir FC at Synthetic Turf stadium, TRC Ground here .
Kashmir FC would be playing third home match of the season here on January 10 against Dempo Goa. It would be third time ever that top side like Dempo would be arriving in the Valley to play its match. However, it would be first time that matches would be played in the middle of severe harsh winter season.
Dempo would be arriving in Kashmir after a gap of nearly 28 years. They had last travelled to Valley in 1987. In total Dempo have played twice in Kashmir. First time in 1986, they went on to win Sheri-Kashmir Gold Cup defeating JK Police 3-1 on their way. For Police side, Khursheed Baba had scored the goal. In 1987, while in Kashmir, Dempo lost its match to JK Police in Federation Cup. Police side was led by Muhammad Shafi Nari at that time.
"It will be historic moment when Dempo would play its I-League away match in Srinagar on January 10. They will be playing in Valley after a gap of 28 years. Though they would not be having bog stars in the side this time but still name of the club its means lot for the football fans," J&K Football Association spokesperson said.
"In Goa, Dempo lost to Kashmir FC and they will be arriving in Kashmir to prove themselves. They will try to beat Kashmir FC on their home turf in order to settle the scores. Keeping that in mind we as football lovers expect mouth watering clash," he added.
