International cyclist Muhammad Akber Khan achieved rare feat on Thursday as he became first ever double national gold medalist in the National Cycling championship.
He bagged his second gold medal in Indian made cycling category at 20th National Road Cycling Championship held at Pathamthitta in Kerala.
By winning the gold, he became the first ever cyclist from JK to clinch double gold medal in any National cycling event.
He represented State in Track Asia Cup organized by Cycling Federation of India (CFI) in which top Asian teams exhibited talent at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi.
"I wanted to prove it to myself that I can do it as I was not practicing for this event since last year. However, I took leave from the camp and prepared in valley for the event and outcome is in front of everyone," Akber told Greater Kashmir from Kerala.
"My strength is my sprint and I am not that good on uphill tracks. However, this year organizers had kept race track as uphill for my category. It was challenge to prove myself on it and with the help of Almighty I emerged as winner," he added.
