Defending champions Mizoram on Sunday thrashed J&K by 4-1 goals in the their third group match of the final round 70th Santosh Trophy tournament at Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Going into its third match after having suffered two consecutive defeats, JK would have hoped for better results. However, the opponents who are reckoned as the current powerhouse of India football did not provide JK a slight of chance in the entire match. Mizoram outclassed JK in all the departments with forward, midfield and defense line all failing to deliver.
JK went into match without its experienced players like Kamaljeet who missed due to red card and Haneef who had suffered injury in previous match. Though in first half JK did try to match the skills of Mizoram players but in second half in was totally different story to tell. In first half score was level at 1-1. Farooq was scorer for JK. In second half, Mizoram went on to score three more goals that included a penalty as well.
With this loss JK have been knocked out of the event with one match yet to be played. The last match of the JK scheduled to be held on Tuesday against railways would dead rubber.
"We failed to match them in the field. They looked far better than us. They outplayed us in all fields. The main reason for that is that our team failed to follow the guidelines given to them. If they would have followed the plan, the outcome would not have been so bad," said JK team manager Bashir Ahmad Malik.
