Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) organized Inter-district road race for girls here on Saturday.
The event was held from Grand Palace to Nishat garden and in it hundreds of students from all over Kashmir province participated.
The Director School Education Kashmir Dr. Shah Faisal was chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.
In U-19 category, Rukhsana representing Budgam District secured first position while as Sumaira of Srinagar finished second. Irtiza Farooq of Budgam district finished third. In the Under-17 category, Rifat Ara representing Bandipora district finished first while as Suriya Jan of Anantnag finished second and Asra Mushtaq of Srinagar district finished third.
In the under-14 category, Benazir Fatima of District Srinagar finished first while as Raqui-Ul-Amin of district Kulgam and Umaira Mushtaq of district Srinagar finished second and third respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shah Faisal congratulated all the girls who participated in the run and said that before him every participant is a winner.
He urged that every student should take one or the other sport and make every effort to excel in that. This will not only help one to be physically fit but mentally sound too, he said.
He urged DYSS to identify the talent among the students and provide every support to the students to chase their dream. He said sports is now a career and not a mere leisure time.
