The 3-day Kayaking & Canoeing Camp concluded on Monday at famous Manasbal Lake in which 65 boys and girls from weaker sections and far flung areas of various districts of the state participated.
The event was sponsored by Ministry of Youth Services and Sports Government of India. Participants from various districts including Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal and Bandipora took part in the three day programme.
Organisers said that the Jammu and Kashmir chapter of National Adventure Foundation based in Delhi had made the necessary arrangement and imparted training to the participating children.
The PDP General Secretary Nizam-ud-din Bhat was chief guest on the occasion while MLC Yasir Reshi and Chief Executive Officer Wular Manasbal Development Authority, Abdul Majeed Khan were guest of honours. "At the closing ceremony the guests distributed incentives and certificates among the participants. The participants were imparted training in various areas of water sports by nationally reputed coaches and instructors," organisers said.
Meanwhile, locals demanded that the water sports activities in Wular and Manasbal Lakes should be promoted as the concept of water sports is new as far as North Kashmir is concerned.
"There is enough scope to develop Wular, Manasbal and Jhelum as a centre for water sports which will also add to the tourist activities in the area," they said.
The programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Indian Kayaking & Canoeing chief coach Umar Rafiq who is also the Director of National Adventure Foundation, J&K Chapter.
