With an aim to develop adventure sports/tourism in the state particularly Paragliding, Parasailing, Micorlite flying and Ballooning, the J&K Aero Sports Association (JKASA) is being revived by some adventure enthusiasts and experts.
The JKASA was formed in Srinagar in mid 1980's and was registered with Aero Club of India, an apex body of aero sports in India. It is a life member of National Adventure Foundation. The JKASA conducted several activities in the millennium year including Snow Paragliding at Gulmarg, Aqua Parasailing on Dal Lake, Land Parasailing at Srinagar Airport and imparted training to youth to land Paragliding at Sonamarg and at different other places with the financial support of J&K State Sports Council, an association statement said.
Secretary Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra who wants to develop and promote adventure sports in its all forms has assured the association that all sort of support will be provided by the Council for the development of these unique aero sport activities for which J&K state provides natural facilities, statement said.
The Association is hopeful Paragliding would soon become a registered competitive sport in the state. This sport is played on land as well as on snow covered slopes, while Parasailing is played on land and water. The Association is holding annual general meeting soon in which the fresh election would be held.
