A local stadium in Tral township of Pulwama district hosted the first ever football match in the area. The match was played at Eidgah playground in Tral-I-Payeen between two local teams.

The match started at 11:00 am, witnessing a huge audience of sports lovers from across the sub-district including Awantipora and Aripal.

"It was for the first time in the history that I saw a football matched being played in our area. The match evoked massive response from the people of Tral and its adjoining outskirts. "This match has taken the  sports in Kashmir especially in Tral to next level," said Irshad Ahmed, a player.

Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner Tral, Riyaz Ahmad Malik inaugurated the first ever football club after a friendly match was played between Tral football club A and Tral football club B teams. 

The ADC hailed the initiative and appreciated the coaches and players for entertaining the audience.

In absence of sports stadium in the area players said, "We have only one stadium in the town that too in dilapidated condition. In the absence of a proper stadium, sportsmen are forced to play in grave yards and main roads."
