The committee of administrators on Wednesday appointed former Ranji trophy cricketer, SP Qaiser as the new chairman of selection committee for J&K cricket team.
Qaiser replaced Ashwini Gupta who had taken over only last month. Apart from that committee has also removed all the previous selectors who were at the helm of selection.
"He is new chairman of selection committee and will be joined by two other selectors who will be looking after selecting the next J&K team," said a JKCA official.
When contacted SP Qaiser confirmed the development and said, "It is big responsibility and I will try my best to deliver to the best of my ability. Everyone would be looking at me now and how I will deliver during the selection".
"It is a three member committee and our main job now is to select the J&K team for the upcoming One-Day tournament. The 50-shortlisted players have been asked to attend the coaching camp cum selection trial in Jammu from Thursday," he said.
He said that committee will try to make selection on the basis of the performance of players during the trials. "It is 50-over format for which we will be selecting team and it involves various aspects of the game. We have to look at the form of the players their fitness and agility. After that we need to have a right combination at place," he added. J&K is scheduled to take on Vidarbha in the first match of the Vijay Hazare trophy One Day tournament on February 6 at Hyderabad.
