An unbeaten ton on the last day by senior batsman Ian Dev helped J&K salvage a draw after being forced to follow-on, as hosts Goa earned first inning lead points in the Ranji Trophy match played at Goa Cricket Association Academy, Porvorim on Wednesday.
At the end of last days' play, J&K were 242 for the loss of five wickets in second inning when both teams settled for a draw.
Goa earned three points from the match owing to first lead while as J&K had to be contended with one point. For J&K it was a fighting unbeaten knock of 113 runs by Ian Dev and a half century by Shubham Khajuria that helped the team to salvage draw after being forced to follow-on.
Earlier in the day, J&K started their first inning on the overnight total of 246 for the loss of seven wickets, trailing Goa's first inning total by 22 runs. J&K got all out for 271 runs. Amir Aziz was first wicket to fall in the day after scoring 28. He was soon followed by Umar Nazir while as Irfan Pathan was the last man to get out after scoring 60. J&K fell short of Goa's first inning total by 197 runs and were forced to follow-on. For Goa Lakshay A Garg took four wickets while as Amogh Desai took two.
The second inning also got off to a bad start with opener Ahmad Banday getting out without opening his account and it looked that J&K may suffer a dramatic collapse to handover hosts a big win. However, Shubham Khajuria joined Ian Dav in the middle and the pair started to build the inning steadily. The duo formed a 95-run stand before Khajuria got out at 54, his second fifty in the match.
With J&K still trailing by 102 runs, Ian was joined by Paras Sharma and the pair took J&K score past 200 run mark while forming a 113-run partnership between them. Paras got out after scoring 44, followed by Shubham Pundir and skipper Parvez Rasool who scored 4 runs and 11 runs respectively.
The fall of Parvez brought first inning top scorer, Irfan Pathan in the middle to join Ian Dev. J&K had scored 242 for the loss of five wickets with lead of 45 runs when both sides settled for a draw.
Ian was batting on a brilliant knock of 113 runs from 195 balls that included 15 boundaries and one six while as Irfan was batting on 10. For Goa, Lakshay was again pick of the bowlers taking two wickets.
On the basis of earning first inning lead Goa were awarded three points from the match while as J&K had to be contended with one. It was another disappointing outing for J&K in the Ranji trophy this season after suffering defeat in the first match against Rajasthan.
J&K will play next match against Tripura that is scheduled to be played on November 20 at Sheri-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Srinagar.
