2 Kashmir mountaineers selected for IMF Pre-Everest camp

In a boost to the adventure sport activities in Kashmir, two mountaineers have been selected by Indian Mountaineering Foundation for the Pre-Everest expedition camp for the IMF Everest Massif expeditions 2020.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) had obtainedaround 1200 applications from all over India for the expedition and out of themaround 100 was selected. The expeditions would be funded by the Ministry ofYouth Affairs and Sports.

IMF as part of Scalefour peaks in the 'Everest massif region'in the year 2020 from Everest Base Camp will launch expeditions to Mt Everest –8848 Mtrs, Lhotse- 8516 Mtrs, Nuptse – 7861 Mtrs and Pumori – 7161 Mtrs.

Before the expeditions to these four peaks, IMF would beholding Pre-Everest expedition camps for the shortlisted mountaineers.

IMF has selected two experienced mountaineers Nawab MoazamKhan and Ghulam Mohammad Wani, both members of the J&K Mountaineering andHiking Club. IMF has also Stanzin Youthog, Manik Slathia and Ambreen Fatima whohail from Jammu and Ladakh regions respectively.

The selection camp will be held between June one and Julyfive and Pre-Everest expedition to a peak above 7000-meters is also scheduledto be organized in the post monsoon season (August-September).

Both the selected mountaineers are qualified mountaineersand have also scaled various peaks.

Nawab Moazam has scaled Mt Kolohoi 5424 mt, Mt Kun (upto6500 m), Mt Stok Kangri 6135 m, Mt Golap Kangri 5950 m, Mt Harmukh (Triangularpeak)  5100 m, Mt Shinmaen 4700 m and MtMahadev 3966 m.

Ghulam Mohammad Wani has scaled Mt Kolohoi 5425 m, Mt Nun7135 m, Mt Stok Kangri 6135 m, Mt Harmukh (Triangular peak) 5100 m, Mt Sunset4600 m and Mt Mahadev 3966.

They were shortlisted on the basis of their profile as IMFchecks all details while short listing the candidates for such expeditions.

Terming it a major achievement Nawab Moazam said, "I have adream to scale Mount Everest and all the other top peaks the World. This ismajor thing as it sets the base for the future endeavors which is going to helpme achieve my dream. The Pre-Everest camp is important one as it prepares themountaineers for the next year's hazardous and grueling expeditions".

About Ghulam Mohmmad Wani, he said, "All in adventurefraternity of State know him as Gullu and he has achieved a lot. He isexperienced campaigner and it is great to have him along with me during thistime".

The both mountaineers are members of JKMHC that has been inforefront in the promotion of hiking and mountaineering sport in Kashmir. Whileselection of Nawab and Ghulam Mohammad is big news for everyone, anothermountaineering girl from Kashmir Nahida Manzoor is already on Mount Everest.She went for expedition last month and is currently on way to summit theEverest. She left base camp couple of days ago and is likely to be on Camp 4 atpresent.
