Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) is going to field its 32 member strong contingent in the upcoming nation al level alpine ski competition and Federation International Ski (FIS) race scheduled to be held in Uttrakhand next month.
According to statement issued by WGAJK, The Winter Games Association of Uttrakhand is going to host two major Alpine Ski events at Auli from January 15 to 21 next year. Besides National Alpine Ski Championship for men and women, the hosts state is will also be holding the International Ski Federation (FIS) races simultaneously there.
Among others, the WGAJK is also fielding its 32 member contingent. The selection of the team was made during last State Winter Games held in April 2017 at Kongdori which was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council, WGAJK statement further said.
President WGAJK and MLA Tangmarg, Abbas Wani said that the Association plans to hold a weeklong coaching camp for the selected players from January 1 at Gulmarg. He said that the Association has requested the Sports Council to provide sufficient funds to the association to meet expenses of the account including TA/DA and fee.
Wani also said that FIS Races are being conducted first time in India. A good number of international skiers are expected to participate. In the races the skiers need specified equipment and the association has requested Tourism Department to provide it on loan.
All the selected skiers, whose list has been posted on WGAJK Facebook page, have been asked to attend the screening at Bakshi Stadium on the said date. For further information the athletes can contact General Secretary on his mobile No: 9419707307.
