6 non-local players selected in Women’s football team: JKFA

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Football Association said that six players from Haryana have been selected in J&K Women’s Football team for upcoming senior nationals.

“Only 6 players are from Haryana, however rest are from J&K. We have selected a team of 20 players and only 6 are from Haryana and 14 from J&K.

We have done this due to two reasons, first reason is to make a strong team and second reason is that we didn’t not get enough players from J&K and that’s why we had to go for Haryana players”, said President, JKFA, Zameer Thakur.

However, another association, NIFF said that the move is not only unfortunate but will prove detrimental to the future of female athletes in J&K.

Chairman , NIFF, Bashir Ahmed Malik said that the female footballers form Jammu and Kashmir had appeared in the recent trials but unfortunately outside J&K players were selected for the upcoming tournament.

“On what basis were the players from J&K ignored while players from Haryana were taken on board. It will also affect the future events and the results will be very negative for the future of women football. It is the responsibility of the football federation of J&K to make sure that players of J&K are included.”

“If J&K players are good enough for daily events, why not for nationals. It is the responsibility of the sports council to work on their own players and make sure that they are included. We hope that this issue will be seriously looked into and sorted out,” Malik said.
