Sports Minister, Moulvi Imran Reza Ansari on Saturday inaugurated two-day District Srinagar Thang-Ta championship at Sheri-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, here.
The event is being organized by District Srinagar Thang-Ta Association under the banner of J&K State Sports Council.
In the event around 200 players hailing from different parts of City, are participating in various age and weight categories in both boys and girls sections, an official handout said.
The players who will bag medal in the event would be selected for State championship and will go on to represent State for 22nd National Thang-Ta championship scheduled to be held at Hyderabad.
On the occasion, Sports Minister witnessed various matches and hailed organizers and Sports Council for the efforts to bring sports back on track.
"I am very happy to see the mass participation of boys and girls in the martial arts event like this," he said.
He also interacted with the players and assured them his full support by way of providing the kits, mats and other Thang-Ta sports material. On the occasion Minster also hailed the hardwork and dedication towards uplifting sports of Secretary Sports Council, Waheed ur Rehman Parra.
Among others present on the occasion were Secretary Sports Council, Waheed ur Rehman Parra, MLA Anjun Fazili, Chairman Women's Commission Nayeema Mehjoor, thang-ta coach M Iqbal and Secretary J&K Thang Ta Association Ayjaz Ahmad Bhat.
