Asian games medalists Bhanu Pratap Singh given rousing reception in Jammu

Bronze medallist of 18th Asian Games Bhanu Pratap Singh and chief coach Kuldeep Handoo were given rousing reception at Jammu Airport where people from all walks of life were waiting to have their glimpse. 

IGP Danish Rana led various police officers in the reception hosted by Jammu and Kashmir police and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta and commandants of armed battalions were present on the occasion.

   

Bhanu scripted history by becoming the first player from the state to win medal (bronze) in Asian Games being held at Jakarta-Palembang in Indonesia.

Bhanu Pratap won bronze in Wushu at Jakarta. Bhanu emerged victorious in quarterfinals as he beat Philippines rival in the men’s 60-kg category on Tuesday. He lost the semifinal bout against Erfan Ahangarian of Iran after suffering an injury at Jakarta-Palembang on Wednesday.

Bhanu, who is serving in Jammu and Kashmir police, was felicitated by Director General of Police DGP S P Vaid at Amar Singh Club here, where a function was jointly organized by J&K State Sports Council alongwith J&K Police.

“He has made Jammu and Kashmir Police, J&K and India proud by his victory. He is talented and his coach Kuldeep Handoo is also talented,” the DGP told reporters here.

He said he will recommend their names to the government for promotion to the post of deputy superintendent of police.

Bhanu dedicated his medal to police martyrs and their families.

“I dedicate this medal to the martyr policemen and their families. I want to help them fully. If I grow, I will continue to help them more,” Bhanu said.

“I want to dedicate my medal to the police martyrs’ who sacrificed their lives for the country and their families,” Bhanu told reporters at the sidelines of a felicitation function.
