Bad weather hits I-League, Sunday match postponed

The highly anticipated I-League contest between home side Real Kashmir FC and Kolkatta Giants East Bengal has been postponed due to heavy snow cover on the field at TRC Turf Ground here.

Real Kashmir was scheduled to take on East Bengal in an important I-League match on February 10 at TRC Turf ground. However due to heavy snow accumulation on the field and the stands the league organisers have decided to postpone the match.

   

All India Football Federation, match commissioner along with Real Kashmir officials took stock of the ground situation on Friday. After the review it was decided that match would be postponed as it is not possible to clear field of the snow within short period of time.

“Both cub official and match officials visited TRC ground today. The whole field is covered under thick blanket of snow. It would not be possible to clear the snow from the field and spectator stands within short period. Also the Sports Council officials suggested that field will get damaged if tractors are used to clear snow,” said a club official.

Meanwhile both the clubs issued the statement about the match postponement through their official twitter handles.

“Due to bad weather and pitch condition in Srinagar, our next match against Real Kashmir FC on February 10 has been called off. New date of the match will be announced later,” East Bengal FC posted on its twitter handle.

 Real Kashmir twitter handle also posted this message, “Due to a snowed in TRC Astro Turf in Srinagar, our next match against East Bengal FC scheduled for February 10 has been called off. New date will be announced soon”.

The match between Real Kashmir and East Bengal is an important. Both teams are in contention to become league champions. Real Kashmir has 32 points from 16 matches, while as East Bengal has 28 points from 14 matches. Real Kashmir will next take on Minerva Punjab on February 17 at TRC Ground.

GOKULAM STUCK

Meanwhile Gokulam Kerala FC who played against Real Kashmir in Srinagar on February 6 are still stuck in Srinagar as their flight on Thursday got cancelled. They are yet to get next flight confirmation.

“Indigo airline have given us February 13 as the date of travel. We are still trying for earlier date but there is no confirmation. We have also informed I-League organizers about the development,” Gokulam official said.

Meanwhile some of the officials and couple of players of Gukulam Kerala FC left from Srinagar as they managed to get tickets. However majority members of the team are still in Srinagar. Gokulam Kerala FC is scheduled to take on Aizawl FC at EMS Corporation Stadium Kozhikode on February 10.
