Inspector General of Police Kashmir (IGP) Kashmir, Javaid Mujtaba Gillani on Thursday inaugurated 3-day District level sports and athletics festival at Professor Showkat Ali Stadium Baramulla in north Kashmir.
The event is being organized by Baramulla Police in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and Nehru Yuva Kendra.
Hundreds of young sportspersons and athletes hailing from all over the district are participating in the sports meet. Besides athletics competitions in games like Hockey, Volleyball, Handball, Kabbadi, Table Tennis, Kho-Kho, Tug of War and other games will be part of the three day festival. A colorful cultural program was presented by school children and other cultural tropes on the occasion.
Inaugural Kabbadi match played between Gulshan Kabbadi Club Trumbgund and Sultania Club Tujjarsharief and was won by Sultania Club.
The IGP Kashmir, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Geelani while speaking on the occasion said that Police are organizing such events in addition to their routine duties to channelize the energy of youth in a positive direction.
He said that such events are being organized in length and breadth across Kashmir and will continue to be held to provide the platform to youth to harness their sports talent.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain while talking to Greater Kashmir said, "There is no dearth of talent in Baramulla district. It needs to be harnessed in a positive way so that youth get a chance to display their skills and move ahead."
"Baramulla Police have build a cordial relationship with youth and it's our duty to provide them with the platform," Hussain added.
Among others DIG north Kashmir, Uttam Chand, Brig Yogesh Choudhary, Nasir Naqash DC Baramulla, prominent citizens and hundreds of people especially the youth attended the inaugural function.
