Deodhar Trophy: Umar Nazir included in India-C squad

J&K pacer Umar Nazir has been included in the India-C squad for Deodhar Trophy tournament scheduled to start at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi from October 23.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the squads for the Deodhar Trophy. The India A, B and C sides will be led by Indian ODI aspirants Dinesh Karthik, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane respectively. 

   

The big news for the cricket fans of J&K is that the India-C squad for the trophy includes name of pacer Umar Nazir who recently did well for J&K in Vijay Hazare Trophy. India-C team would be lead by Ajinkya Rahane.

The 6.2 tall pacer who hails from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has been doing well for J&K in one day and T20 formats in the recent past. Deodhar Trophy is a one-day tournament which features some top cricketers of the country in addition to the ones who have done well in Vijay Hazare trophy recently.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament, Umar took 10 wickets in five matches for J&K including a match-winning performance against Tamil Nadu by claiming 4 wickets in the match.  

India-C will be playing its first match against Shreyas Iyer lead India-B team on October 24 and second match against India-A on October 25.

A senior member of state cricket team said that it is great to see things happening in J&K cricket arena with selection of players for top events.

“Umar did well and improved his game under Irfan Pathan and the outcome is in front of everyone. I hope he gets games to play and prove his talent in front of everyone in this event,” he said.

“Good things have started to happen in J&K cricket. Senior team after a terrible start finished well, so did Under-19 team. Young pacer Rasikh Salam got Mumbai Indians trial call-up and now Umar has been included in India-C squad. I hope it is just a beginning and we will see many more good things happening in future,” he added.

India C: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Abhinav Mukund, Shubman Gill, R Samarth, Suresh Raina, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar, Pappu Roy, Navdeep Saini, R Gurbani and Umar Nazir.
