Don’t politicize sports: Er Rasheed

President of the Awami Ithad Party and former MLA Langate Er Rasheed on Thursday said that sports and education shouldn’t be politicized and local youth of the state should be given credit for their achievements at a bigger stage.

“Kashmir youth are very talented but due to the lack of genuine opportunities they often fail at international level. Unfortunately, national media and other agencies get often indulge in taking credit whenever sports stars like Parvez Rasool, Abid Nabi, Manzoor Pandav, Rasikh Salam, Mehraj Wadoo, Tajamul-Islam and many others make their presence  felt  at national and international level,” he said.

He said, “Army, Police and other security agencies should stay away from conducting sports events as it politicizes sports.”

He said Langate Premier League is an indigenous event and its purpose is to give opportunities to the youth to compete and display their talent.

“The purpose of starting Langate Premier League and similar events are aimed to give the message loud and clear that youth of Kashmir cannot be used like cannon fodder to mislead the world community as it is the youth, who are suffering at all fronts, but still New Delhi is trying to use their participation in sports and education related activities to create a notion that Kashmiri youth are fed up with the voices seeking resolution to Kashmir dispute,” he said.

Er Rasheed stressed upon youth to concentrate on their education and also announced that he would be starting free quality coaching for the students of class 12 for entire area. ” In an era of competition every Kashmiri needs to discharge his duties towards the society and we cannot compromise on education at any cost,” he said.
