J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) along with Tourism department has felicitated the 14-member team that scaled the Mount Kolahoi, highest mountain peak of Kashmir.
The 15-member team, led by Saurabh Gandhi of Mumbai, was flagged off by Chief Minister here on 6th of this month. The team followed the Satlanjan-Dhudhsar lake route.
The team was lucky to have good weather during last week and was able to put 8 outsiders and 6 locals atop the iconic peak. The expedition Coordinator Naseer Mir said among the local members, Junaid Beigh, G.M Wani, Nawab Maozam Khan, Imtiyaz Qureshi, Irfan Ahmad and Sabzar Ahmad climbed the peak. Naseer has climbed the peak four times in the past.
Kolahoi (5425 mts ) is one of the iconic mountains of Kashmir. It is the highest peak in Kashmir and has been attracting mountaineers since ages, climbed for the first time by Kennith Mason and Dr Earnst Neve in 1912. It has become focal point for climbers world over.
