Srinagar, Nov 20: A top level alpine skier from J&K, Arif Khan has secured his place in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

Arif who is a well known figure in the Indian winter sports arena, secured his place in the dream Olympics by proving his mettle in the qualifying races around the world. Arif is currently in Dubai where he had gone for participation in Olympic qualifier Alpine skiing event.

Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 are scheduled to be held from February 4 to March 2, 2022.

Before securing place in Olympics, Arif has participated in nearly 100 International sporting events including South Asian Games, Asian Games and World Ski Championships. Currently he is only Indian skier to secure place in Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) has hailed Arif Khan for making it to Olympics and making whole Country proud.

Leading the praise were WGAJK President Mohammad Abass Wani and General Secretary Mohammad Yousuf.

"I have got the confirmation that Arif is first Indian skier this time to secure place in Winter Olympics 2022. It is biggest news of the decade for us as our skier has qualified directly for the biggest winter games spectacle on the globe," said Mohammad Abbas Wani.

"He deserves it as he has been working hard over the years for it," he said.

WGAJK General Secretary Mohammad Yousuf termed Arif Khan as "unsung hero of J&K sport".

"Over the years he has been lone torch bearer of not only J&K winter sports but also of Indian skiing across the globe. However, he has not been given due recognition and now he has silenced one and all but getting place in Olympics," Mohammad Yousuf said.

"We are proud of him and whole winter sports community of J&K and Country will be proud of him," he said.
