The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchisee team Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi has invited Kashmiri team to play in upcoming 'Zalmi World Cup' in UAE.
"Two weeks after Kashmiris living in Dubai started biggest cricketing extravaganza Kashmir Super League (KSL), Kashmiris were surprised when they got an unexpected additional entry in Zalmi World Cup," a Kashmiri living in UAE told Greater Kashmir over phone.
The CEO Haier Group and owner of Peshawar Zalmi Franchise in PSL, Javed Afridi, announced on Sunday the inclusion of Kashmiri team in upcoming Zalmi World Cup and team would be competing with other 10 teams from countries like Australia, USA, UK, South Africa, China and Dubai.
The tournament is scheduled to commence from February 28. The announcement was made in front of small gathering in Dubai including some Kashmiri key players. The team would have players from both sides of Kashmir and team would be named as Kashmir Zalmi. It would be led by renowned Kashmiri cricketer Mohsin Matto.
Being invited to the Zalmi World Cup is a milestone for our cricketers said one of the players. It is prestigious event and we are pretty certain we will try to give our best, he said.
"When we received the invitation, we immediately knew we had to figure out a way to go. It is a tribute to all the work that our Kashmiri players have put in over the last several years here in UAE," a player in Dubai said.
Captain Mohsin Matto thanked the Zalmi Management and Javed Afridi.
"With great pleasure we are accepting the invitation and we are looking forward to redeem such a huge opportunity with our performances," he said.
The Kashmiri cricketers living in Dubai came into limelight after the Kashmir Super League.
