After the early setbacks J&K were able to put themselves in comfortable position on the first day of the Group-C Ranji Trophy match against Tripura at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai on Monday.
Tripura won the toss and opted to field first. Decision proved right as J&K lost both the openers with only 14 runs on board. Shubham Khajuria got out for 0 and Umair Nissar for 9. However, Pranav Gupta was joined in the middle by ever dependant Ian Dev and the duo took J&K total past 123 run mark before their partnership was broken. They put in 109 run stand between them. Pranav got out after scoring 55 while as Ian Dev scored 59. The next in batsman, skipper Parvez Rasool scored only five while as Punit Bisht scored 33.
At that point it was looking that J&K would again get out for a low score. However, Aditya Pratap joined in middle by Samiullah ensured that J&K didn't lose another wicket during the day. They shared unbeaten stand of 81 runs, taking J&K total to 270 for six at stumps.
Pratap was batting on 65 from 165 deliveries, smashing eight boundaries in the process while as Samiullah was batting on 35 from 88 deliveries. He scored three boundaries and one six.
For Tripura, M B Mura Singh and Rana Datta took two wickets each while as AS Sarkar and G Singh took one wicket each.
J&K are currently in strong position in the match and would be hoping to post at least 400 runs in first inning. They will then try to apply pressure on opponents and earn first inning lead and if possible at outright win. However, all their hopes are pinned on the duo of Pratap and Samiullah.
