Srinagar: J&K were held to 1-1 draw by hosts Chandigarh in the opening encounter of the 75th Santosh Trophy national football championship at Sports Complex , Chandigarh on Sunday.
Playing its first match of the campaign against hosts Chandigarh, J&K got off to an excellent start with Shakir Ahmad scoring the opening goal in the 7th minute.
It was the start that J&K would have hoped for. However, in the 37th minute , hosts Chandigarh levelled the score. Sunveer Singh was the scorer for them. At half time the score was 1-1.
In the second half, both sides tried their best to score. J&K even went on to change its star striker Aakif Reshi in the 69th minute with Raja Musharaf, replacing him. However , the result didn’t come their way so the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
Kunal Singh of Chandigarh was awarded man of the match.
Another highlight of the game was that Chandigarh was playing under coach Muzamil Mahmood Dar who hails from Ganderbal district of J&K. He was recently appointed as Chandigarh coach.
J&K will be playing its second match of the campaign against Services on Tuesday.
In another match of the group played on Sunday, Services thrashed Himachal Pradesh by 3-0 goals.
