Srinagar Softball Championship concludes

Srinagar, Mar 26:  The District Srinagar Softball Championship 2023-24, organised by the District Srinagar Softball Association under the aegis of the J&K Softball Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, concluded amid a flurry of excitement at the Gindun Sports Centre in Rajbagh on March 26.

The championship, which witnessed a remarkable turnout, saw Waseem Raja Khan, General Secretary of the J&K Softball Association, grace the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. Mohammad Iqbal Beigh, Javed Ahmad Akhoon, Mohammad Furqan, and Sheikh Mohammad Jahangeer were present as Guests of Honor and Special Guests, respectively.

   

Congratulating the District Srinagar Softball Association for organising the event in a highly professional manner, Khan expressed hope that regular district and club-level competitions would undoubtedly elevate the Olympic sport of softball in the Union Territory.

He lauded the tremendous efforts of Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, in uplifting sports and games and providing modern facilities to athletes in the region. Khan urged all athletes to take advantage of the resources provided by the Sports Council.

The Chief Guest extended his gratitude to the Gindun Sports Centre, J&K Sports Council staff, officials from various schools, colleges, and clubs for their contributions to the championship’s grand success.

He welcomed all winning teams across age groups to participate in the forthcoming J&K UT Softball Championship 2023-24, scheduled from March 28 to 30 at the J&K Sports Council facilities at the Football Ground GGM Science College in Jammu.

In a celebratory atmosphere, Khan distributed medals, trophies, and accolades to the winners, runners-up, and third-place teams, encouraging them to further hone their skills in this promising sport.

The championship saw Akhoon Softball Club emerge as the winner in the Senior Women’s category, while Acme Softball Club clinched the top spot in the Senior Men’s event. Young Hawks Club of Softball and Friends Club were crowned champions in the Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ divisions, respectively. Wais Softball Sporting Club and Softball Academy Gindun reigned supreme in the Sub-Junior Girls’ and Sub-Junior Boys’ categories, respectively.
