State Chess Championship concludes

The State Chess Championship organised by All J&K Chess Association concluded at SK Indoor Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

The State Chess Championship  organised by All J&K Chess Association concluded at SK Indoor Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Nearly 135 players, including 35 girls, from all over the state participated in the championship.

Khalid Amin Gojwari  won  the State  Chess Championship 2016-17 in senior category while Mir Saqlain Afaq bagged first place in U-19 category. Irfan Majeed bagged the title in U-17 category, Zubair Ahmad topped in U-15 category and Syed Mohsin in U-13 category. Ahmad Bin Altaf and Muhammad Gous Banday won U-11 and Under- 7 category respectively.

In senior category of girls, Sana Mukhtar clinched the title. Saima Shafi topped in Under 25 category while Bishmah Afshan emerged winner in U-19 category.

Mushinah Farooq bagged first place in U-17, Zobiya Riyaz topped U-15 category, Mehroz Sajad topped U-13 category while Ambroz Sajad won Under-9 title.  Muhammad Gous Banday and Ambroz Sajad were awarded youngest participants while Rajinder Singh were awarded by 'Chess Loving Person'.

It was first time that players from Ladakh division and Karnah, Tangdar also participated in this championship. Total five rounds under Swiss system were played in this championship. The main sponsor of the event was J&K State Sports Council.
