Srinagar, Nov 5: J&K senior men cricket team suffered second consecutive defeat as they were beaten by Rajasthan in the match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament at Reliance Cricket Stadium, Vadodara on Friday.
After having failed to chase the target against Andhra Pradesh in their opening match, J&K failed to post a decent total against Rajasthan in their second match. Rajasthan defeated J&K by five wickets as they chased the target of 145 runs in 18.5 overs.
Earlier batting first, J&K top order batsmen again looked out of sorts as they failed to give the innings any kind of momentum that is required in T20 format. The top order consumed too many deliveries that put things out of hand for hard hitting batsman like Abdul Samad who did his best.
In allotted overs , J&K were able to post only 144 runs on board for the loss of four wickets. Opener Qamran Iqbal scored 20 from 24 balls while his partner Vivrant Sharma scored 15 from 16 balls. Ian Chauhan scored 45 from 33 balls while skipper Shubham Pundir scored 16 from 19 deliveries. The Sunrisers Hyderabad star player Abdul Samad remained unbeaten on 40 from 27 balls while Yudhvir Singh remained not out on one run. For Rajasthan, RM Bishnoi took two wickets while TM Haq and K Nagarkoti took one each.
In reply Rajasthan achieved the required target in 18.5 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Deepak J Hooda turned out as star performer for them scoring 50 from 28 balls while MK Lomror scored 41 from 41 balls. Skipper Ashok Menaria scored 16 from eight balls. For J&K, Mujtaba Yousuf and Umran Malik took two wickets each. While J&K bowling failed to defend the low total, the changes made by skipper Pundir surprised one and all.
While other bowlers were leaking runs, former skipper Parvez Rasool bowled two tidy two overs in which he gave only 15 runs. For failing to utilise the full four quota of Parvez is the decision that is being questioned.
From the match Rajasthan bagged four points and is now placed at second place with eight points. Haryana stands at top with eight points as well. Meanwhile J&K stand at bottom of the points table with zero points after having failed to open their win account in the event.
J&K is scheduled to face table toppers Haryana on Saturday. The seasoned opener Shubham Khajuria and another opener Suryansh Raina are set to return to the side after having recovered from dengue. They are likely to replace Qamran and Vivrant who both have failed to provide quick starts in both the matches so far.
